Kununurra waterfall scenic flights

The rain is here and the waterfalls are flowing once again. It is really picturesque to see fresh water tumbling down crevasses that were dry only a few weeks ago. Our pilots have been coming in from flights exclaiming about the waterfalls. Now is the time to do a scenic flight - either by helicopter or aeroplane. Call Sharyn, Helen or Bronte on 9169 1300 to arrange a time.

The country here is just spectacular at present, freshly washed by the rain, the red rocks are vivid and the grass is emerald green, with the golden tops of the speargrass shining in the sunlight. The helicopters are in the Bungle Bungle and the plane is at Warmun, so we are ready to go!

Helicopters are a buzz in Broome

If you are in Broome, you must go for a heli flight along Cable Beach. It is magic! Broome colours are stunning; turquoise ocean, cobalt sky, pindan red rocks, white beach sand. Its humid and sultry in Broome at the moment, so the wind in your face when you are in the helicopter is great!

Grant Kenny's Heliwork WA, now based in Broome

Demand from clients has encouraged Heliwork WA CEO, Howard James, to establish a permanent base in Broome. From November 30th, 2009, Heliwork WA will have 2 Bell 206 Jetranger turbine helicopters located at the Broome airport which are available for charter and scenic flights.
"Establishing a base in Broome has been a long term plan" said Mr James. "The time is right with the growth Broome is experiencing. We will be active community participants, just as we are in Kununurra. Heliwork WA conducts a significant amount of work in the West Kimberley and a permanent base in Broome will allow us to service all our clients locally."

Kimberley bush fires close Bungle Bungle base

We have had some big bush fires in the Bungle Bungle over the past week and have closed our Bungle Bungle helicopter base for the 2009 season. We are really sorry for those of you who had planned to drive into Purnululu to fly with us.
Visit Viv at our Kununurra office and she will be able to help you book a plane flight. The aeroplane also shows you Lake Argyle and the Argyle Diamond Mine, so is different to the helicopter but also a great experience. It is hot up here now, so the early morning flight is best.

Slingair Tour is one of Australia's 20 best experiences

The recent TRAVELLING IN AUSTRALIA magazine awards for the 20 best experiences in Australia saw Slingair Heliwork come in second in the air category. The tour voted on was the Mitchell Falls Explorer; departing Kununurra fly to the Mitchell Plateau by aeroplane, where you are picked up by a helicopter which drops you off at the Mitchell Falls, allowing you time to walk, swim and take in the remote wilderness. The plane flight back to Kununurra sweeps along the coastline bordering the Timor Sea.
Wow, we are thrilled to have the recognition by agents from across the world! http://www.travellinginaustralia.com.au/

The flying dutchman visits the Kimberley

We put together an itinerary for Mark and Marijke from Holland - we picked them up in Katherine NT, and dropped them off in Broome. They visited the Bungle Bungle, El Questro, Faraway Bay, Mornington, Cape Leveque and all spots between over a period of 9 days. Nick was their pilot, he had a holiday as well!! This is what they had to say.

Dear Ailsa, Sonja and Judy (and of course Nick, but we already told him "live"),

We had a wonderful week in the Kimberleys. Not only due to the way of travel which makes it possible to visit so many beautiful sites in a relative short period. Not only because every site is again totally different from anything we saw before. Not only because of the warm reception at all of the resorts.
We felt pampered the whole time, as everything was arranged perfectly. We didn't even had to worry about unforeseen changes to the plan, as Nick and Ailsa took care of it. Thanks for the flexibility.

As to Nick, we feel we have met a new friend. The only ambiguous feeling we got regarding the entire week was whether we did not put to much pressure on Nick as he had to work maybe a bit to hard now and then. Especially when he was able to sleep in a bouncing boat out on the big waves of the ocean for more than an hour that was a bit of a worry for us.

She'll be apples!

Mark and Marijke

Mitchell Falls mid season

Unseasonal weather changes brought us hot muggy conditions for approximately 2 weeks, we thought our winter was over and the build-up had begun but at last the beautiful weather has returned so we are joyous again. It did not keep the Partridge Pidgeons away though. This year we have hit the record with an amazing 16 Partridge Pidgeons visiting our Bird Bath at one time. The school holidays kept us nice and busy with large family groups coming through, but now the chaos has subsided we look forward to the return of the Grey Nomads. The Road conditions have turned a few people away but the keen adventurers have pushed on and been rewarded with what most of them call the highlight of their holiday, the beautiful and magnificent Mitchell Falls.

Helicopter pilot's day at the Bungle Bungle

Another beautiful day dawns in the Bungle Bungle at the Heliwork base, the weather forecast is very predictable; clear blue skies, sunshine, a fresh 6c in the morning turning into a pleasant 28c during the course of the day. The first job of the day is to carry out all the fuel bowser checks and then set up the office. We then preflight all the aircraft in preparation for a busy day. Our guests then start to arrive, we brief them and then take them for an awesome experience over the Bungle Bungle Range. At day's end we finish off the paperwork then head off home for some well deserved dinner and a light beer around the camp fire, then its off early to bed as there are plenty of pilots here who need their beauty sleep.

Hugh Jackman sat here!

Not to name drop, BUT, Hugh Jackman sat here and Nicole Kidman sat on that seat. Baz Luhrman first saw the Kimberley from the air with Slingair Heliwork. Tim took him over spectaular sites which inspired the movie AUSTRALIA. So let us inspire you, come and do our Movie tour and sit where Hugh sat.

Diamonds for Mothers Day

Slingair and Luridji tours exclusively do tours of the huge Argyle Diamond Mine. Why not take your mum on a tour and surprise her with a diamond bought on site at Argyle? The tour includes a flight over the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park ( Bungle Bungle) and Lake Argyle. The views are magnificent - Mum will have a great day and come home sparkling!

The Remote bases are operational

Jaz and her team of pilots are up at the Mitchell Plateau, flying visitors over the Mitchell Falls and out to cruise boats. Nick and Doug are at Warmun (Turkey Creek) flying out to the stripey Bungle Bungle, Tommy and Glen and their team are in Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle) taking people flying over the formation in helicopters and Dean is enjoying his flights from Drysdale over the magnificent Prince Regent River and stunning coast. Wow, who wouldn't want to be a pilot!
